Virtual Tour of Southwest Stillness
Southwest Stillness: Intentional Serenity in Nature
Southwest Stillness: Intentional Serenity in Nature, features photographic works by local St. Louis artist, Christine Gruenwald, who looks at nature for sources of peace and refreshment in a chaotic world.
Her black-and-white images reflect a deep desire for stillness and serenity in the untouched wilderness of the Southwest.
Portrait of Aloe, 2019
Digital Photograph, Pigment on Paper
This is the stem of the aloe plant, under the aloe leaves. Some of the leaves have been removed and a husk is left (dried base of the leaves). It felt like an intimate portrait. I was thankful for capturing its beauty in a unique way.
Sunset on Seventeen, 2020
Digital Photograph, Pigment on Paper
Sunset on Seventeen, has been a favorite of mine and with audiences. It was taken on Interstate 17, going north out of Phoenix. It was a breathtaking view of the valley in the foreground and the mountains, eye level, in the middle with the sky in the background. You can see a very tiny ranch at the foot of the hills.

The Early Light, 2019
Digital Photograph, Pigment on Paper
It’s always a wonderful site to see the sunshine casting it’s rays over creation! The way to start a new day.

Desert Spring, 2020
Digital Photograph, Pigment on Paper
Single Saguaro and Desert Spring were taken pretty closely together, geographically speaking. We did some walking in Tonto National Forest, in the Superstition Mountain Range. It provided some beautiful and unique landscapes.
